K-12 Science Fair Project Presentation

NOTE: It is important the identity of anyone involved in the project NOT be on your display or in the logbook, nor should your school or district name or identity be visible or present.

Project Upload Limit for 2025

Limit to 10 pages and 100 MB for display. (Can be PowerPoint or PDF.)

Your display is a visual representation of your topic and research.

For 2025, projects will be submitted electronically online.

You can—

1. Make up a traditional science fair board, take photos, and insert into a Powerpoint presentation, or
2. Submit a Powerpoint presentation with items that are normally on your poster board.

In order to create a display that presents your topic and findings as clearly as possible, we suggest you:

1. Label the sections and arrange them logically.
2. Include: background information, problem, hypothesis, procedure, results and conclusions.
3. Photos: Use photographs to show the procedure (NO identifying faces in photos - you may cover faces with a sticker).
4. No Names: Do not include your name in your project or logbook.
5. Printing: Use large, bold printing or typing.
6. Color-code the studies variables.
7. Reference your logbook for critical information or data.
8. Acknowledge those who advised or assisted you; or for example, if in Kindergarten, (as well as others not able to do so) and unable to write your log book, acknowledge and thank those who did! Do this in general terms such as my teacher, or my parent, etc.
9. Computer-generated materials are acceptable for the display board.
10. How will you be judged? Review the appropriate scoring rubric to make sure you have all the  components for a blue ribbon project!

If you have photographs in your logbook or on your display, you should not be able to identify any people in your photos. To ensure that no faces are visible, students often take photographs of just their hands performing the work. Some students put a round sticker, or label over the face, or faces in a photo to block and protect identity/ies.

Quad Chart

• A quad chart is a single page divided into four quadrants providing a high-level summary of the project. (Like a mini-presentation/poster board.)
• The quad chart summarizes your project in a single page for a quick overview of your project and will be viewable online by judges, other students and members of the science community.
• This representation of your project is intended to be only a summary and to be visual in nature.
• Any text or photos used in your presentation or logbook may also be used in your Quad Chart. It is not necessary or expected that students create entirely new content for the Quad Chart.
• You are not required to create your Quad Chart on a computer. You may create your Quad Chart on an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of paper and scan it into the computer to upload.

1. You must use a page size no larger than 8 1/2"x11" and your page should be created in Landscape mode.
2. The page will be uploaded as an image or PDF to the website during project upload.
3. Text should be in list or bulleted form and as brief as possible. This chart is intended as a high-level summary that can be read at-a-glance.
4. Make sure to include your project title and sequence number at the top!
5. DO NOT list your name, teacher name, or school name.
6. All four quadrants of your Quad Chart should each be the same size with a single borderline delimiting each quadrant, as in the example below.
7. The Quad Chart should include all appropriate photo credits, but should not include a bibliography, references or acknowledgments.

TIP!- The page background color should be a light color and text color predominantly dark to support readability.

TIP!- A font size of 14 pt. or larger is encouraged for readability.

Quad Chart Title: Project Name and Sequence Number

1. Include your project name and sequence number at the top of your quad chart.
2. DO NOT list your name, teacher name, or school name.

Quadrant 1: Research Question/Problem/Project Objectives

1. Include a description of your purpose, your research question, and/or your hypothesis.
2. What is your research question? What were you trying to find out? 
3. A leading core graphic or visual is encouraged, but not required.

Quadrant 2: Methodology/Project Design

1. Explain your methodology and procedures for carrying out your project.

Quadrant 3: Data Analysis & Results

1. What were the result(s) of your project?
2. Include tables and figures which illustrate your data.
3. It is advised that this quadrant should primarily be a graphic representation of relevant data and results.
4. Text should be kept to a minimum.

Quadrant 4: Interpretation & Conclusions

1. What is your interpretation of these results? What conclusions did you reach?
2. What do these results mean?
3. Did any questions or problems arise that you were not expecting?
4. How do the results address your research question? Do your results support your hypothesis?
5. What application(s) do you see for your work?

LOGBOOK

Logbook Upload Limit for 2025

Limit Logbook to 10 pages and 100 MB. (Can be PDF OR Word doc.) 

Start your logbook right away! A logbook is a record or journal of your experiment/project. It should include a detailed, day-by-day record of your work on your project. Your logbook may be typed on the computer or handwritten in a notebook and scanned into a PDF or Word Document. For handwritten logbooks, it is recommended that you use black or blue pen for best legibility when scanning. Logbooks that are not readable by our judges will not recieve full points. You will upload your logbook when you upload your other project elements. Do not list your name, your teacher's name, your school name or show photos of faces of people in your project. Logbook upload should be limited to 10 pages and a file size of 100 MB.

Be sure to include the following in your logbook!

Be sure to write (or type) your sequence number and project title at the top of your logbook. You will receive your sequence number when you register your project.

It's important that you keep track of where you received your information from. Collaboration is important in the scientific community and it is important that we give credit to those who helped us. Make sure that you write down every website, book, encyclopedia, magazine, or expert interview that you use for information. A minimum of 3 sources is required for this project.

It's important that you are following all safety guidelines for the fair. Include in your logbook a description of the safety procedures you followed during your project.

Be sure to include a date for every entry you make in your logbook! Your detailed observations made throughout your project are the most important part of the logbook. This includes what you are doing, materials used, and any data collected/observed. Write down details about what your senses are telling you. What did you see? What did you smell? What did you hear? What did you feel? Did you encounter any problems?

Research Literature Review Division

Research Literature Review Paper Upload Limit for 2025

No more than 100 MB for Research Review Paper | See below for specific requirements.

A Research Literature Review Paper is NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL PROJECTS! It is ONLY REQUIRED FOR STUDENTS ENTERING THE K-12 RESEARCH Literature Review DIVISION!

Research Literature Review Papers are not recommened for students participating in the Honors Division Fair for high school students submitting collegiate-level work and are not eligible to compete in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

Overview

The Research Literature Review Division is for students who want to investigate viruses, fire, hazardous materials, or a subject that has been deemed unsafe by a teacher or Academy of Science staff or SRC. If a student is interested in bacteria, viruses, fire, or hazardous materials, they are NOT allowed to handle, sample, or test. However, they can study data that is available from reliable sources and submit a Research Literature Review Paper.

• For the Research Literature Review Division you will not have a display. Submit a 5-page double-spaced paper (you may use both sides), a signed Safety Form, and a Quad Chart.
• 2-3 additional pages may contain graphs, tables, or diagrams ONLY (if needed) and these additional pages may also be double-sided | graphs, tables, or diagrams may also be included within the 5 double-spaced, double-sided pages.
• Include one page for bibliography/works cited (may be double-sided). Ensure that you include an additional works cited, works consulted, or bibliography page with at least 3 sources. The works cited page is not part of the 5-page limit.
